SUMMARY:Spider walk: Oori Private Game Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Bring a picnic and your bathing costume\, as well as the normal sunhat\, something to drink and good walking shoes. The Spider Club attendance fee is R50 per adult and R10 per child 11 years and under\, cash only\, with the option of paying R150 PER FAMILY for annual subscription. \nLate summer is the most amazing time of year to find spiders and we have 21 hectares to roam in with a choice of grassland\, thickets\, river frontage and a spring-fed dam. Shannon Rogotzki will be our hostess and says that after a day in the hot sun we are welcome to leap into their swimming pool to cool off. \nWe will supply vials\, magnifiers\, plastic pill bottles\, sweep nets and some other basic collecting equipment but please bring your own if you have as well as any reference books.  We will bring a microscope and a draft copy of the new SANSA (South African National Survey of Arachnida) photo guides so you can practise identifying spiders. \nIf you plan to attend please let Caren know (call 083 753 2946). She will set up a WhatsApp group and send you the gate entry code on the day.  \nHow to get there: Take the Pelindaba Road (R512) driving north and turn right onto the Winsome Valley Road at 25°52’31.6″S 27°54’21.8″E\, -25.87444\, 27.906056. Drive for about 2kms and turn right into Riverside Road\, continue +-2.2 kms to Shannon’s place\, Plot 31 Riverside Road. Note: there are 5kms of dirt road\, so be prepared to drive slowly and admire the game on the way!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a spider walk at Norscot Koppies and Kingfisher Nature Reserve – 16 ha. of nature in the heart of the northern suburbs in Fourways\, Johannesburg. \nDirections: From the N1 William Nicol offramp\, drive towards Montecasino/Fourways and go left at the first intersection into Leslie Road. After about 800 metres\, turn right at the four-way-stop into Westway Road. Continue to the end of Westaway: at the T-Junction with Alexander Avenue you will see the entrance to Norscot Koppies on the opposite side of the road. GPS Coordinates are: -26.0321955\, 27.9952897\,15 \nWe charge R50 per adult and R12 per child under 12 CASH ONLY to attend these events. We will supply a limited amount of collecting equipment\, such as vials\, sweepnets and reference books\, but if you have your own\, please bring them.  We will also have eye glasses (magnifiers) at R55.00 and sweep nets at R80.00 for sale\, again CASH ONLY. \nPlease remember to wear a hat and strong shoes\, carry enough water and if you need them\, snacks. DESCRIPTION:We have a stand at this prestigious event which will give us really good exposure. We educate people\, both young and old about the wonderful world of spiders. Educating the young ones is a rewarding experience. DESCRIPTION:Meet at 432 Stallion Road\, Corner Equestrian Road\, Ruimsig\, Roodepoort \nQuick! Quick! Before the weather gets too cold for spiders and the winter fires burn the grasslands\, come and see what we can find in the Ruimsig Entomological (butterfly) Reserve. We’ve noticed that with the late and copious rains and still warm weather\, a lot of spiders are still around. \nThe reserve is pristine veld grassland which has been more or less undisturbed for decades\, so there are no paths. Please ensure you have water and if necessary snacks and please wear strong shoes and be prepared for grass seeds getting into your socks! \nWe now charge R50 per adult and R10 per child under 12 to attend these events. Eye glasses (magnifiers) will be on sale too at R50 each. Please bring cash. This is the only way we can raise money to run your club. \nWe will supply sweepnets\, other collecting equipment and reference books. SUMMARY:Snap Survey at Albert's Farm Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:We have been invited to hold a snap survey of arachnids at Albert’s Farm by the Friends of Albert’s Farm Conservancy. All Spider Club members and interested members of the Friends of Albert’s Farm are invited to take part. \nMeet on Sunday 10th March at 8 a.m. at Main car park of Alberts Farm. The main entrance is on 6th Road West\, corner/opposite 8th Street\, Greymont. Co-ordinates: -26.1586; 27.9703 \nThere is no entrance fee to the park but The Spider Club now charges for attendance at field and certain other events to raise money: R50 per adult and R10 per child 11 years and under\, cash only\,\nwith the option of paying R120 PER FAMILY for annual subscription. For field events we supply vials\, magnifiers\, plastic pill bottles\, sweep nets and some other basic collecting equipment but please bring your own if you have as well as any reference books\, adequate water\, a hat and good walking shoes. \nPit traps will be installed beforehand and other collecting methods will be used on the day to get as rounded a picture of the arachnid fauna as possible. In the afternoon\, those who would like to help with preliminary identification using microscopes can rendezvous at 8 O’Brien Avenue\, Waterval Estate. It’s just a stone’s throw from the eastern side of Alberts Farm. Photos taken on the day might be used to create a poster.

There is riverine bush\, Highveld grassland\, dolomite formations and caves\, walkways\, steep bits\, suspensions bridges and cool woodland areas.  With such variety of habitats we could find ANYTHING if we are allowed to walk slowly enough. \nDirections from Johannesburg:  Take William Nicol in Fourways going north\, it becomes the R511. From where you cross over the N14 Highway it is 16.6 kms and should take you about 15 minutes.  Meet in the parking area. \nIn addition to the Spider Club fee of R50 per adult and R10.00 per child\, there is a CASH entrance fee:  R70 for adults\, R40 for grade 1-12 and pre-school children are free.  All fees are payable in cash there are no card facilities.   Please remember\, they only take CASH so make sure you bring with you. DESCRIPTION:This small reserve is home to an impressive variety of plant and animal species and was proclaimed to preserve the habitat for the rare and threatened Heidelberg Copper Butterfly\, Chrisoritis aureus. It is about an hour’s drive from Johannesburg\, just past Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. \nDirections: take the N3 going south. Leave the highway at Exit 59 onto the R23\, Heidelberg/Balfour Road turning right over the highway\, at about 1.3 km turn left onto the Lagerspoort Road. The entrance gate is at – 26.566719\, 28.380233 or 26°34’00.2″S 28°22’48.8″E. \nPlease note from now on we charge for attendance at field and certain other events: R50 per adult and R10 per child 11 years and under with the option of paying R120 PER FAMILY for annual subscription. ** Some venues will also require an entrance fee which must be paid by each individual.
